DESCRIPTION
Valued for its versatility, Douglas fir has been used in a variety of ways, from structural timbers to furniture making. Often characterized by a vertical or straight grain and luscious red-brown tones, Douglas fir reclaimed wood flooring can fit both an upscale or informal motif. Its durability and medium, uniform texture once made Douglas fir the ideal wide plank flooring for working and living quarters in mission-style homes of the American Southwest, as well as a key element in turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts (or Craftsman) houses. Our Douglas fir hardwood flooring is normally reclaimed from old factories and warehouses in the form of structural beams, timbers and joists.
A light, reddish-brown pine, Douglas fir features prominent growth rings and slightly lighter sapwood. Douglas fir wide plank flooring is primarily straight grained; the wood may also contain wavy or spiral grains. Virgin-forest Douglas fir can have very tight growth rings.
