Frequently asked questions about our wide plank flooring, antique products and process.
Here's a few reoccurring questions we're asked. If you don't see your question, give us a call and we'll be happy to answer it for you.
What is Antique Reclaimed Hardwood Flooring?
Antique Reclaimed hardwood flooring is made from wood recycled from dismantled barns, granaries, factories and other turn-of-the-century buildings that have outlived their usefulness. These materials were often originally harvested from America's virgin forests, making it authentic virgin timber.
How Wide are Wide Plank Floors?
Most of our wide plank floors have widths from 3” to 11”. We’re a custom wood flooring mill, so our planks are milled to your specifications. If you need extra wide floorboards, we can mill them for you. We also offer mixed-width wood planks for when you want to incorporate a variety of widths into your hardwood floor.
What is a Random Width Floor?
A random width floor means that each floor is produced for optimal yield and the width results vary with each floor. Random width flooring is more traditional and available in several width ranges. Random width means there is no guarantee you will receive a specific percentage or quantity of any one width. Prior to installation of a random width floor, the installer should read over the tally sheet provided by Olde Wood Limited® which shows the quantities of each width included in the order, and decide on how they will lay the floor utilizing the full amount of each width. Do not start installing the floor in a sequential pattern or you will most likely run short on one or more specific widths. If you would like to install sequentially (3,4,5,6,3,4,5,6,3,4,5,6…..) this is called an equal lineal footage floor and would need to be ordered that way with specified quantities of each width. Specified widths are available upon request. Please ask your Sales Rep for information and pricing if you would like this option.
How Long Should I Let My Wide Plank Floors Acclimate Before Installation?
Unfinished hardwoods should typically acclimate for 7 – 10 days, while prefinished hardwoods should typically acclimate 10 – 14 days. This will allow the hardwood’s moisture content to reach equilibrium with the environment in which it will be installed.

What is Traditional Plank Flooring?
Traditional Plank flooring is new hardwood that has been traditionally milled. Typically harvested from the Midwest and Appalachian states, these timbers retain the character and strength that defines this timber region. All of our Traditional flooring is available with a smooth or vintage saw mark surface.
Does Antique Reclaimed flooring have to be installed a certain way?
After carefully processing reclaimed wood into flooring, it is extremely stable and installs the same as most other solid, hardwood flooring products. Some of our natural surface flooring may require some hand scraping to even a few board edges.
What is a typical lead time for delivery?
Lead time varies depending on product quantity, custom specifications, and specie availability. Solid and Engineered wide plank flooring with no finish applied typically ships in 3-4 weeks, while prefinished wide plank flooring typically ships in 4-5 weeks. For more information, please see our Order Expectations resource.
How will my order be delivered?
Each order is delivered common carrier to your business or job site. All orders are custom packaged on pallets, with lumber wrap and wooden sides/top to protect your order. Forklift unloading is recommended and material is packaged in bunks of 10-30-sq. ft.
Can this flooring be installed over radiant heat, over concrete, or below grade?
If you have a project like the one described above, we recommend looking into our engineered flooring products. Our Antique Reclaimed, Traditional Plank, and all of our other wide plank flooring collection products are available in an engineered product.
Will wider boards cup, crown or warp over time?
Wood acclimation and installation are the two most important things to ensure your floor lasts a lifetime. Our flooring is properly kiln-dried to 6-8% moisture content before delivery, which eliminates the tendency for warping or cupping. Whatever type of humidity control that you have should be in proper working condition before installation to provide a constant environment for your floor. Acclimation of the product in the area where it will be installed for a minimum of 7 to 10 days is strongly recommended.
How do I place my order?
To place an order, simply call your Design Specialist for details. A 50% deposit will be required at the time your order is placed with the balance due once the order is completed.
What do you recommend to fill unwanted holes?
A filler is recommended to fill holes. Please call for more details.
Are other wood species or custom sizes available?
We custom-mill your floor after your order is placed, and while we specialize in wide plank wood flooring, we can provide any of our materials in shapes and sizes not listed on this site. Please call for custom pricing, availability, or antique building materials that may not be listed.
